![]() ![]() **It's funny, I bought the 2004 Bard's Tale because it shipped with BT1, 2 & 3. ![]() A Bard's Tale editor could become the reason to buy the trilogy. I know of a one being made this week and at least seven new ones planned for next month. People are still using FRUA for new designs. BTCS came earlier than FRUA, and aside from making standalones, wasn't quite equal to FRUA. The Bard's Tale Trilogy: Remastered brings back the grid-mapping, dungeon-diving, turn-based combat, party-scale adventuring of the classic trilogy, with updated graphics, audio, music, interface, and some general gameplaying improvements. Given that Becky's idea was to produce an entirely new machine that was processing the old data, and that said data had to be converted to a unified format, I guess you'd need to write an all-new Construction Set for the remasters.Ĭome to think of it, I didn't ~actually mean remastering the BTCS rather I meant including some kind of an editor that would allow tinkering with the converted games, and/or crafting new ones in the new format, I suppose.įor that matter, it wouldn't really have to edit the games, just allow for new maps and/or art hacks could even be a different game executable. ZZGO wrote:Not sure if/how that would work. The emulated version we previously released as promised will remain available to everyone who backs The Bard's Tale IV. In the meantime, we've removed the BT remasters from our reward packages on the Bard's Tale backer web site. Obviously, we're not happy with this situation, and it has been a frustrating sequence of events for us, but we felt it was right to let you all know what happened. At this stage, we feel it's unlikely that Olde Skuul will finish development on the BT remasters. During this period we even provided internal and external QA resources at our own expense to help push development along, but those efforts didn't help much either. Our emails and IMs would sometimes take weeks or months to get replies. Unfortunately, Olde Skuul's progress slowed and eventually stopped. There was some initial work done on the remasters, and we released some of those beta builds to you as a way to keep you guys involved during BT4's pre-production stages, as well as to help fuel development and get feedback for Olde Skuul. This implies that they've stopped working because we haven't paid them monies that are due, but as mentioned above, we agreed no monies would be due until completion. More recently, Becky has made appearances, such as on the Shane Plays podcast where she suggested Olde Skuul stopped working on the project because they haven't received payment. Alternatively, he can refuse to fight either the Druid Leader or Caleigh, allowing the undead to overrun the world, a situation he is content with as they make good bar buddies."Meanwhile, Rebecca will be working on the updated versions of the games and if that goes well we'll get you those as soon as she delivers them to us, also for free! As we're not working on these versions ourselves we cannot give an ETA or guarantee on their release, we'll all be waiting for Rebecca to deliver us an upgraded version worthy of the name!" ![]() If he slays Caleigh, The Bard returns to the road in search of the next bar maid. If the Bard frees Caleigh, she gives him all his heart's desires while destroying the world. ![]() Caleigh is revealed to actually be a demon tempting people to come free her for years on the assumption that eventually someone would succeed. On the way to complete his quest, the not so valiant anti-hero will have to overcome the truly terrifying challenges of three monstrous guardians, break-dancing corpses, spontaneously melodious goblins, a giant, and a fire-breathing rat.Įventually, it is revealed that the Bard is just another in a long line of "Chosen Ones," many of whom he finds dead along his path. As a result of this, the Bard finds himself being attacked by an assortment of fanatics from a Druid-like cult, sent to dispatch him by a being called Fionnaoch. The Bard (voiced by Cary Elwes) ends up being recruited by a cult to help free a princess named Caleigh. Some optional areas are places in Ireland, including Dún Ailinne, Ardagh, Carrowmore, Emain Macha, and Tara.) (Most of the names for places are actual locations in the Orkney Islands, including Kirkwall, Dounby, Finstown, Houton, and Stromness. Many of the names and characters are influenced by Celtic mythology and the stories of the Orkney Islands. The Bard, who is never identified by a specific name nor addressed by anything other than 'The Bard,' is not interested in saving the world his humble motivations are strictly 'coin and cleavage.'" His quest is narrated by a mocking, biased man (played by Tony Jay) who cannot stand him. The plot involves "a sardonic and opportunistic musician and adventurer, driven by carnal rather than noble pursuits. ![]()
